July 26- all about the food

2009.07.26
So when is it not with me, eh? ;-)

I bought this "made in Maryland" home made granola at the farmer's market on Saturday. I thought it would go well with all of the summer fruits that are around now. Bit of a splurge at $6 a bag, but super tasty.
Michele's Granola

Breakfast- fruit and granola with soy milk. (A very "crunchy granola" thing to eat, literally, but oh- so good!)

Still had loads of fruit around so decided to make use of my mince pie pans, more than once a year. ;-)
I made little mini fruit pies- one blueberry and one mixed fruit (peach, cherry, strawberry) (annotated)
(The peaches and blueberries were local, the cherries and strawberries, although not local, were organic).

Lunch while the pies were baking- the last of the home made potato salad I had made on Friday, yummy half sour pickle from the Farmer's Market, fakin' bacon, local cheese, lettuce and tomato on a whole wheat foccacia. (tomatoes from our garden, cheese, lettuce and bread from the farmer's market).
Organic Rasberry iced tea to drink. (was on sale at the Organic market the other day).

Dinner- fish curry, brown basmati rice, pappadums and naan, home made raita, tomatoes from our garden and sauteed red kale with garlic, ginger and garam masala.(and no, I didn't clean my plate- this was alotta food! ;-) ). (annotated)

And then finally- pudding/dessert- a mini pie that I made earlier, heated, with vanilla ice cream and a little whipped cream. This was a good food day!! :-)

thisismizb crust- 1 cup flour, 1 stick (8 table spoons) butter, 2-4 tablespoons very cold water. Cut butter into flour, add water, continue cutting in until dough makes fine crumbs and hold together. Mold into a ball- stick in the fridge.

To the fruit- add some sugar )1-2 tablespoons, a little vanilla, a little cinnamon, and a tablespoon of flour. Stir well.

Roll out the dough, and use a cutter to make the larger circles. Place into the tins and fill. Then cut the tops with the smaller cutter and cut slits in the top. Bake in a 375F oven until done.

allisonf Jeez, come cook for me, please? The granola looks divine, especially once you've added all that fruit. Mmmmm.
