July 25- Waverly Farmer's market and friends' annual party

2009.07.25
I decided to go to the Saturday Farmer's market in Waverly since I was up and ready to go.

This stand is new...

Here's the menu... hrmm, what could "watch me pedal" and "pedal your own" mean?...

Why- it's a people power blender!

Mmmm, snack- veggie samosa

some sunflowers near the market

ahh, wattamelon season!

Later on, Paul and I were off to Steve and Lorrrie's place in the country for their annual party. (Remember them from HonFest?)
(They're in the bottom 2 pics)
This little weiner dog is named Roxy and came with a guest. ;-)

Their house and surrounding area is so completely lovely- they have their own pond!
Back when I was single (and the last time I was freelancing), I used to volunteer to house sit/cat sit. Staying out there was like a mini-vacation.

View of the pond

Steve put this water feature in several years ago- looks quite natural, don't you think?

Paul and I were trying to figure out what kind of tree this is- anyone know? The fruit looked kinda like limes, but I don't think they grow well in this climate and they didn't smell at all.
Ideas?

More lovely views of the pond.

Looking at the house from across the pond.

Fran enjoying some yummy corn.

They had horseshoes, but I don't think anyone ended up playing yesterday...

Lisa and me with our "no Leatherman in sight" shot. ;-)
(Oh, that's the blouse I got at the thrift store with Liz the other day, btw)

Lisa and David in a cute couple shot.

Look- it's Deirdre and Leo again (I ran into them getting off the light rail at Artscape last weekend).

Here's Paul pushing Deirdre's husband Gary and daughter Fiona into the water.

and here's Dad and daughter going for a little paddle round the pond.

Steve and Lorrie think of everything.... here's some fans you can borrow if ya get hot...

oh, and the "language of the fan" so you can communicate. ;-)
(I think this is a leftover from when they worked on "Washington Square" ;-) )

Steve and Lisa

Blue hydreangea- looked almost fake it was so perfect looking.

Their second of their two older organgey cats recently passed away (the ones I used to cat sit), and right after, they got a chance to adopt these kitten brothers. They were so cute!
Paul and me, and Lisa and David were all melting from the cat cuteness. ;-)

kitten in a bag!

Lookit the li'l brothers. (They're called Boo and Riley- don't know which is which yet though).

Of course I had to hold one. Here I am making my silly cat face. ;-)

It started to absolutely piss down with rain, so everyone took cover.

Rain or not, I still had me a piece of Smith Island cake, which is Maryland's official State cake!
Super yummy, as ya might expect. ;-)

Another fun summer day- it'll be over before we know it, so must savor every last bit. :-)

KateR Such a perfect day. I don't know what I love most, the peaceful shots around the pond, or the cute kittens.

allisonf My god, what an incredible house. If they want to come to the UK they can stay in my flat and catsit here, and I'll take a trip to absolutely anywhere to look after that place and those kitties!!!

The fan language is just lovely. And the smoothie idea is seriously brilliant - I miss lassis.
