Carolina On My Mind.

2009.11.06
01. The Hut - When we arrived at BB and T stadium in Winston-Salem, the conditions were less than favorable. Very gloomy skies and a bit of a mist. This hut was the first structure I saw when I got out of the car.

02. Gate Five - We started to walk around after we parked to car, and I saw this huge sign.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/80" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'42.90"N, 80°15'6.86"W

03. Fire Tree - Driving to the stadium, my friend saw a bunch of these red leaved trees and asked me to shoot one - here it is.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/125" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'42.24"N, 80°14'34.04"W

04. Call Us - I looked up, saw this and thought it was pretty cool at the time. Now it's just free advertising for the school.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/80" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'42.90"N, 80°15'6.86"W

05. Keep Out - The parking lot which we utilized was not only gated, but had barbed wire. I do not know why, it was just a huge fairgrounds lot covered with grass and some small roads.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/320" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'42.89"N, 80°15'7.91"W

06. Calm Before The Storm - BB and T Stadium is an awesome venue I must admit. It only holds about 31,000 people, but it was very neat looking.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/500" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'43.43"N, 80°15'19.21"W

07. Abandoned - Yeah, while tailgating, we walked all around the open fairgrounds and saw this. How sad looking. I figure it was used for rodeo or something years ago.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/100" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'35.28"N, 80°15'7.18"W

08. Orange Blossoms - Walking around the inside of stadium, we saw how nice fall is in Winston-Salem. Nothing like SoFlo...
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/320" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'47.16"N, 80°15'13.60"W

09. And The Band Played On - I'm such a sucker for marching bands [having played in high school and college]. These guys were great and they even played a rendition of the University of Miami fight song to pep up us away fans. Very classy.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/200" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'50.15"N, 80°15'13.52"W

10. Kickoff - All set to finally get the game going. This was the view from my seat. Not the best, but it is what the university provided to us.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/125" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'50.15"N, 80°15'13.52"W

11. Crowded - Ah yes, the Orange and Green. We were out in full force that night. Miami does have a big contingency of alumni living in the Carolina's apparently.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/500" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'50.15"N, 80°15'13.52"W

12. Hippies On The Lawn - This is one of the cooler things I saw. This is like festival lawn seating! I've heard of this before, but never seen it at a football game in person. Neato.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/160" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'50.15"N, 80°15'13.52"W

13. Motivation - This gentleman made the entire trip worthwhile. It is one of those 'you had to be there' moments, but I'll sum it up. While our team was loosing big in the first half, a lot of the fans were down and quiet - sitting in our seats, not cheering and just being quiet. Well this man was not going to have that! He got up, started making sarcastic remarks about us sitting down and became a cheer-leader for the night. It was awesome.
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/60" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'50.15"N, 80°15'13.52"W

14. Keep Off The Field - So yes that was the final score, but more interesting was the disclaimer to remind fans not to run onto the field. Seriously, everyone [from the home team] was so stunned and subdued, I don't think they needed a message like this.
Canon SD750 | f/4.9 | 1/160" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'50.15"N, 80°15'13.52"W

15. The Aftermath - This was only minutes after the game. Poeple were racing out of there as fast as possible it seemed. We did run into many Wake Forest fans, and they didn't seem too happy. Hey, it's just a game!
Canon SD750 | f/2.8 | 1/60" | ISO 80 | 6mm // 36° 7'48.24"N, 80°15'12.94"W

James Taylor - Fire And Rain

Yep, the trip was a success! It was nice a cool as soon as we left Florida and that was great. As for the game we went to see - the team I was rooting for [Miami] was getting killed most of the game and somehow managed to come back in the second half and win 28-27. It would have been a very, very long 830 miles back to South Florida had they lost.

As for the shots you see, the weather was not great in Winston-Salem; it was overcast and really everywhere we went, it was less than favorable for photo-taking. I know, lame excuse. Anyway, I never took out my DSLR, instead I ended up with shots from my little P&S. I've edited them as much as I could to take away the depressing looking they had when I uploaded them to my puter. Cheers.

revenant What an interesting introduction to US football and a good story, although I suspect you'd be a little more cheerful if the scores had been reversed...

jlmphotos I like the graphic impact of #2, or should I say #5?
Good one. And an interesting series. My oldest went to a D1 University on a full basketball ride and played in her second year against UCONN in the Sweet 16 tournament in Storrs, CT! Now that was a media and entertainment circus!
My second daughter got a full ride on a tennis Scholarship and turned it down! She didn't want to leave home. I knew I should have been meaner... and cheaper. LOL J
