The 14-spot ladybird, one of four species I've seen in the garden this year, 2-spot, 7-spot and the dread Harlequin making up the rest. Harlequins were new this year, and they've already become the most common variety in the garden.

Did you know that slugs are hermaphrodites? I didn't until I read up on them after photographing this!
The relationship ants have with other species is also interesting; there's one species of rainforest ant which kills all but a particular tree. The ants then live inside the trees they've tended. More on that here.
Backfilling with shots taken on the day in question.
